Selecting the Right Bird Cage

When owning a pet bird, one of the first things you have to do is to purchase a bird cage.  Since there are a wide variety of cages offered in the market, ones with different colors, sizes and styles, it could take quite a while to make up your mind.

Here’s a bit of help.  We’ll share with you some guidelines on how to select the perfect cage for your bird.

Location of the Cage- Where will you place your bird cage? Keep this in mind when looking for a bird cage.  You also need to know that it is best to put the bird’s cage away from the window or any hidden part of the house.  To help build their social growth, place them where people can see them.

Size of the Bird – Naturally, the size of the cage will depend on the size of the bird.  However, it would be better to buy huge cages instead of small cages.  Aside from future addition, the birds placed in a small cage often show their worst behavior – yes they too have psychological disorders especially when they are confined in such a small living space.  If you are still unsure, you can seek advice from an avian veterinarian about what cage size is best for your pet bird or birds.

Styles of the Cage – Instead of choosing vertical bars, pick the cage with horizontal bars.  This allows the birds to exercise and climb on them.  Based on veterinarian studies, round cages are harmful to the psychological behavior of the birds.  So instead of round cages, pick the angled ones.  It can either be placed on a stand or even hung.
